Magdalena is an art therapist, educator, group facilitator & artist:
I am multi-racial and benefit from many privileges: light skin, middle-class, able-body passing, post-graduate education, and a US citizen with a passport. Since 2006, I have lived in O’Gah P’Ogeh Owingeh, the unceded territory of Tewa-speaking people, also known as Santa Fe, New Mexico. I am a cis-woman and queer mama with two children.
I have worked in a number of organizations that serve diverse humans including: Youth Shelters, working with unhoused / teens in transition, whose cultural backgrounds ranged; Santa Fe School for the Arts and Sciences, where I created the School Counselor position; and I am currently the Art Director of Tomorrow’s Women working with Palestinian and Israeli youth during our international summer intensive camp.
I supervise Art Therapists-in training who are working towards their national certification, as well as New Mexico based counselors working towards independent licensure.
From 2012-2022, I was the professor of multiple courses at Southwestern College, during many of those years I was also in charge of curriculum development and course leadership for:
Professional Ethics in Art Therapy & Counseling, Multicultural Perspectives in Art Therapy & Counseling, Materials & Techniques in Art Therapy, Arts-Based Research, History of Art Therapy, Theories in Art Therapy, and Group Dynamics.
